Extra pressure to drink is common around the holidays, whether it comes from friends, family, or social media… If you grew up with family struggles or were in government care, the holidays can bring up a lot of emotions. Sometimes, drinking might seem like a way to cope or fit in, but it’s important to remember it can make things harder.

If you do choose to drink, make sure you’re in a safe space with people you trust.

Drinking can affect your judgment, and you deserve to feel in control. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, reach out to someone you trust, like a counselor, a trusted family member, an Elder, or a friend. You deserve a holiday where you feel safe and supported, and you can make choices that protect your well-being.

It's always important to:

  • Know your limits
  • Don't drink and drive
  • Stay with trusted friends, family, or caregiver
  • Don't feel pressured
  • Look out for one another (you and other friends)
  • Avoid risky or triggering situations
  • Reach out if you need help

Go to the “Get Help” icon on the Connections App or website to find support if you can’t reach out to people you know.
